Initial Teacher Training (ITT)
Our Initial Teacher Training courses are focused on providing trainees with significant classroom experience. Trainees interested in training to teach primary-age children with special educational needs will receive be placed in Whitefield Schools or Joseph Clarke School. Tuition is delivered in partnership with the University of East London.
Salaried Programmes
We offer a range of salaried training opportunities:
- The unsalaried School Direct Training Programme (School Direct (salaried)| Get Into Teaching (education.gov.uk) is for high-quality graduates who want to feel part of a school team whilst training. Fees are payable to the University at standard rates. Further information is available here

Postgraduate Courses PGCE Primary With SEN Special Schools - The‘salaried route’is an employment-based path for high-quality experienced graduates with some work experience. You will earn a salary while you train.
ITT applications will soon be open for the academic year 2023/2024.

What you need to apply
To apply for a place, you must have:
- A first or second class UK undergraduate degree or a recognised equivalent qualification
- GCSEs equivalent to a grade 4 or above in English, mathematics and science
If you do not currently have the necessary GCSEs, you can take an equivalency exam. The University of East London, with whom we work only accepts equivalency exams from A Star Equivalency:
Coming for an interview
If your application is successful, we will invite you in for an interview where you will be expected to prove your level of knowledge and participate in a group presentation followed by an interview. If your interview is successful, you will then be interviewed by the head teacher of your preferred school to ensure you are suited to your choice of school.
